Customize navigation

The main navigation (left sidebar) can be tailored per tenant: order of entries, grouping under headings, and separators between areas. You manage it under Settings → Organisation → Navigation.

  • Order of every navigation entry via drag & drop (grab the handle on the left and move it).
  • Headings to group entries — similar to the structure of these help pages.
  • Separators between areas.

Entries marked System (e.g. Dashboard, Graph, Drafts, Audit Logs) are fixed building blocks of the application. You can place and group them freely, but not delete them.

The editor only lists entries that are actually available for the tenant. Modules without an active entity type and services that aren’t enabled (e.g. Effort Booking without an active ra-timetracker) simply don’t appear — there are no empty or unknown entries.

When an entry disappears without anyone changing the navigation

Section titled “When an entry disappears without anyone changing the navigation”

Which modules your tenant may use is defined by its subscription. If a module is no longer subscribed, its entry disappears from the sidebar — even if nobody changed anything here. Contact your platform administrator in that case.

Your arrangement is not lost. The application still remembers the position and the heading the entry sat under. Once the module is subscribed again, it reappears exactly there — nothing to re-sort. If a heading contained only that one module, it stays hidden meanwhile and returns with the module.

Two entries are standalone pages rather than entity lists but appear in the editor just the same: Effort Booking (only with an active ra-timetracker) and Resource planning (only when the tenant runs the demand module). For resource planning that is more than cosmetics: it is the page where planning happens (Resource planning), and sorting it far down makes it hard for planners to find. The demand list, by contrast, is an ordinary entity list and arrives automatically with the module.

A heading groups all entries that follow below it in the list — up to the next heading or separator. Each heading has a German and an English title; the one matching the display language is shown.

A heading with no entries below it is hidden automatically in the sidebar. This avoids empty groups when a module is not active for the tenant.

Next to the editor you see a live preview of how the sidebar will look with the current configuration — including hidden empty groups.

  • Save applies the configuration for the tenant.
  • Reset restores the default order (Dashboard → modules → tools) without saving immediately.

Until something is saved, the sidebar uses the default layout.

The icon at the top left of the header toggles the sidebar; the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + B (or Cmd + B) does the same.

  • On a wide screen the bar collapses into a narrow icon column. The entries stay reachable as icons — they do not disappear.
  • In a narrow window (below the breakpoint) the navigation slides in as a panel over the content and closes again after you pick an entry.

There is no state in which no navigation is reachable at all: if the icon appears to do nothing, window width is not the cause. Please report it via the feedback button — since issue #66 the report automatically carries the values needed to narrow it down.

The page is restricted to administrators. Platform administrators can also manage the navigation per tenant via Platform Admin → Services → Navigation.
